Valerie Camillo to leave Comcast Spectacor and Philadelphia Flyers organization

Valerie Camillo will be stepping down from her role as President and CEO of Spectacor Sports & Entertainment within the Comcast Spectacor organization.
Camillo had spent the last five years in the organization, mostly in the role of President of Business Operations, where she oversaw the business side of the company while former Philadelphia Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren oversaw the hockey side. She was promoted to President and CEO in September of 2022, where she was responsible for the Wells Fargo Center and the Flyers, the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League, and Maine Mariners of the ECHL.
Camillo’s specific responsibilities during her five-year tenure at Comcast Spectacor was to oversee the $350 million transformation of Wells Fargo Center and to lead Comcast Spectacor’s plans to develop the South Philadelphia stadium district.
Comcast Spectacor is the company that owns the Flyers’ organization, originally formed by late founder and chairman Ed Snider as Spectacor in 1974. He sold 63% of the stake in the company to Comcast as it became Comcast Spectacor in 1996, but remained as a chairman. After Snider’s death in 2016, Comcast Spectacor announced that they’d bought out the remaining stake of the company that they didn’t already own.
Before joining Comcast Spectacor, Camillo worked with the Washington Nationals as chief revenue and marketing officer from 2014 to 2018. She also served as a consultant to the NBA as part of their team marketing and business operations group from 2010 to 2014.
While it’s unclear as to the specifics of her departure at this time outside of the timing being a surprise, it’s possible that it has something to do with the recent house cleaning of the Flyers organization. They made their most significant changes last month when hiring Daniel Briere as the new general manager of the Flyers, while Keith Jones was brought on as the president of hockey operations. Since then, the Flyers have emphasized a “new era of orange”, starting with a press conference with the Flyers executive leadership that included Briere, Jones, Flyers head coach John Tortorella, and Camillo.
