The Vancouver Canucks made a small pair of defensive moves Tuesday acquiring Madison Bowey from Chicago and trading Jordie Benn to the Winnipeg Jets.

Along with Bowey came a fifth round pick, while Vancouver only gave up a fourth in the trade. Bowey, 25, has played in just two games for Chicago this year scoring one assist, but has totaled 156 games over his career scoring 40 points with the Washington Capitals, Detroit Red Wings, and Chicago.

Bowey has one year remaining on his contract after this season with a $725k cap hit.

Benn, 33, joins the Jets after spending the last two seasons with the Canucks. This season he’s appeared in 31 games, scoring nine points. According to hockeyviz.com, he provides offence at a three percent rate below league average and defence at an 11 percent rate worse than league average.

The Canucks receive a sixth round pick for Benn. He carries a $2-million cap hit and is a UFA at the end of the season.
