The Vancouver Canucks will be without Brock Boeser for the next month after the forward underwent hand surgery.

The club announced Monday morning that Boeser was injured on day three of Canucks camp on Saturday. Boeser is expected to miss three to four weeks recovering, the club said, meaning he’s likely to miss the first week or two of the regular season.

It’s a tough start to what is tracking to be a bounce-back season for Boeser. He’s been open about the loss of his father last spring and how his declining health impacted him. The 25-year-old drew in for 71 games last year, scoring 23 goals and as many assists.

Boeser said last week that he took time this offseason to regroup and is coming back with a goal of breaking the 30-goal mark for the first time in his career.

“I obviously took some time away and kind of regrouped… then once I got back, I had a fresh mind and worked extremely hard,” Boeser said, adding “this is the year” he wants to break that plateau.

The Canucks have five more preseason games remaining. They take on the Seattle Kraken on Thursday and Saturday, the Edmonton Oilers next Monday and Wednesday, and the Arizona Coyotes next Friday.
