Will the Canucks get a first-round pick for Kiefer Sherwood?

The Vancouver Canucks’ 2025-26 season has been an unmitigated disaster, with the team going 11-16-3 through their first 30 games, including a 4-0 loss to the Detroit Red Wings Monday night.
With the team seemingly “open for business,” fans and pundits are speculating over which players the Canucks would trade before the NHL Trade Deadline next March. While most eyes are on captain Quinn Hughes, forward Kiefer Sherwood could be a valuable asset for a trade looking for scoring depth.
With 12 goals through his first 20 games, Sherwood was at one point among the highest-scoring players in the league. But with no goals in his last nine contests, the 30-year-old’s trade value may be dropping.
On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discuss Sherwood and if he could fetch the team a first-round pick through a trade.
Tyler Yaremchuk: The idea of the Canucks getting a first-round pick for Kiefer Sherwood: Is that a yes or is that B.S.?
Carter Hutton: I think it’s B.S., but I understand where the team is coming from. It’s early in the trade market, you have a lot of teams that are desperate to make some changes, and he’s a piece who could help any team when you look at how he could fit in your top or bottom six.
I don’t think anyone thought that this pace he started with was going to continue. The team is putting out those vibes that this will be the price they will have to pay. Now, will that price drop as we get closer to the Trade Deadline? I just don’t see a team giving up a first-round pick for him, but like any good real estate market, he’s worth what someone will pay for him.
