The Vancouver Canucks have placed defenceman Quinn Hughes in COVID-19 protocols, the club announced Monday morning.

Hughes, 22, had been at the NHL’s all-star game last weekend where his brother, Jack, played but also tested positive for COVID-19. Quinn has been in the midst of another strong season scoring two goals and 34 points tying him for fifth in scoring among defencemen.

Canucks top executive Jim Rutherford spoke to CHEK TV’s Rick Dhaliwal, saying the news is a tough break for the team. Rutherford said the club is hopeful Hughes will return Feb. 17th.

The team kicks off a three-game homestand this week with the Arizona Coyotes, New York Islanders and Toronto Maple Leafs visiting Rogers Arena.
