It was a double-dose of waiver wire action today, as Vancouver Canucks goaltender Spencer Martin and Winnipeg Jets winger Axel Jonsson-Fjallby were placed on waivers on Monday.

Martin has spent most of the season on the Canucks roster, first as a backup to Thatcher Demko, and then seeing more starts in the wake of Demko’s injury. However, with Demko close to a return, the choice was between him and Colin Delia, and the Canucks opted to go with the latter.

It was probably the better choice, since even with Martin taking most of the load for the Canucks without Demko, his performance hasn’t been amazing in that span. In 29 games, Martin has an 11-15-1 record with an .871 save percentage and -22.72 goals saved above expected, and not only are the latter two stats among the worst of regular goalies this season, that save percentage is tied for fifth in worst single season save percentages for goalies with 20 starts in the 21st century. Oddly enough, the season he’s tied with is also from this year, as Elvis Merzlikins also has a .871 save percentage at the moment.

Jonsson-Fjallby ends up on waivers for the second time this seasons, as he was also placed on waivers during the preseason when he was cut from the Washington Capitals roster, where the Jets then claimed him. He’s consistently been in the lineup for the Jets this season, with 45 games played, and four goals, seven assists, and 11 points on the year.

Along with those two players, Edmonton Oilers center Devin Shore also cleared waivers from when he was placed there yesterday. He had just three assists in 29 games for the Oilers, and has been much more productive in the AHL with two goals, three assists, and five points in five games with the Bakersfield Condors.
