Vancouver Canucks sign Noah Juulsen to two-year, $1.5 million contract

The Vancouver Canucks have locked up local product Noah Juulsen to a two-year, two-way contract extension worth $1.55 million. According to CapFriendly, Juulsen’s new contract will carry an average annual value of $775,000. Juulsen was a pending unrestricted free agent.

The Surrey, British Columbian, spent the latter of the 2022-23 season with Vancouver’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks. While in Abby, Juulsen recorded three goals and 17 assists for 20 points in 49 games; he ranked third among Canucks defensemen in the points column. He added two points in five AHL playoff games.

Juulsen also spent time in the NHL with Vancouver; he appeared in 12 games, going scoreless and was a plus-1. During the 2021-22 campaign, Juulsen saw eight games of NHL action with the Canucks, recording two assists.

Juulsen was initially drafted No. 26 overall in the 2015 NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens. The 26-year-old made his NHL debut during the 2017-18 regular season after a successful major junior tenure with the Everett Silvertips in the Western Hockey League. He was named to the WHL First All-Star Team in 2016-17 as he collected 12 goals and 22 assists for 34 points in 49 games while donning the “C” with the Silvertips.

During his NHL rookie season, he recorded three points in 23 games. Juulsen spent two and a half seasons with the Canadiens before moving on to the Florida Panthers during the 2020-21 season; he played just four games with the Panthers. He was acquired by the Canucks in the fall of 2021 along with Juho Lammikko in exchange for Olli Juolevi.

He has appeared in 68 NHL games over the span of five seasons with the Canadiens, Panthers and Canucks, collecting two goals and eight assists for 10 points in that frame.
