Can Akira Schmid hold down the fort in Vegas?

For the foreseeable future, the Vegas Golden Knights have a lot of questions in the crease.
Adin Hill left Monday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes with a lower-body injury after making a save early in the first period, needing help off the ice.

While it’s unclear the extent of Hill’s injury, the Golden Knights will be in a bind as new signing Carter Hart will not be available until Dec. 1.
Akira Schmid, who took over for Hill and made 22 saves in a losing effort, is expected to take on the lion’s share of starts in Hill and Hart’s absences. Now in his sixth NHL season, Schmid has a 20-18-4 record with a 2.71 goals against average (GAA) and .902 save percentage (SV%) through 52 career games.
On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discuss Hill’s injury and what’s expected from Schmid as he takes over the Vegas crease.
Tyler Yaremchuk: The Adin Hill injury didn’t look good, and this is the second time he’s left a game due to an injury. There’s probably some reason to be concerned. Hart can’t play until Dec. 1. If you’re the Golden Knights, can you trust Schmid? You don’t want to rush Hill, because you don’t want to put his health at risk.
Carter Hutton: It’s worrisome and it’s something you don’t want to nag Hill going forward. Do they have another in Schmid as a stopgap to get them through as a bridge between now and Dec. 1? Will Hart even be ready? It’s a tricky situation for Vegas, but at least they score in bunches.
