The Vegas Golden Knights have announced that defenseman Shea Theodore is dealing with an injury and will not travel with the team to San Jose.

As the Golden Knights enter the final stretch of the 2022-23 season, they have one meeting left with the San Jose Sharks. They will be without Theodore for that game. He could play for in the game against the Minnesota Wild on April 1.

So far, zero teams from the Western Conference have mathematically clinched the Stanley Cup playoffs but the Golden Knights could be the first to do it. Technically, the Nashville Predators could reach 100 points and Vegas has 98 points right now. If the Golden Knights win their next game and the Predators lose, they will clinch the playoffs.

Theodore has been one of the best defensemen in the NHL this season. In 54 games played, he has eight goals and 41 points, seventh on his team in points. He also has the third-best +/- on the Golden Knights this season with a +17.

The Golden Knights have a record of 46-22-6 this year and sit in first place in the Western Conference. They are set to make the playoffs for the fifth time in the team’s six-year history. As of now, they have Mark Stone, Nolan Patrick, and Robin Lehner on LTIR and Theodore out for the next game.

Vegas has a very deep team at all positions and a big question that remains is which of their four NHL goalies will start in the playoffs? Each of Laurent Brossoit, Logan Thompson, Jonathan Quick, and Adin Hill have put up good numbers this year.

Whichever one of those gets the nod in the first round will be playing behind a top-tier defense corps which includes Theodore, Alex Pietrangelo, Zach Whitecloud, Alec Martinez, Brayden McNabb, Nicolas Hague, and Ben Hutton.
