The Vegas Golden Knights will be without their starting goaltender for some time, as head coach Bruce Cassidy told reporters that Adin Hill is out on a week-to-week basis and will not travel with the team on its upcoming road trip.

Hill had to leave Monday night’s win over the Carolina Hurricanes during the first period after seemingly suffering a lower-body injury on a non-contact play during which he tried to react to a deflected shot. Hill required help from teammates and trainers to get off the ice.

In Hill’s absence, backup Akira Schmid came on in relief and performed brilliantly, holding the Hurricanes to just one goal and ensuring a 4-1 victory.

Schmid has been solid when given the crease so far this year, going 4-0-0 with a 2.57 goals against average and .899 save percentage.

Injuries are starting to pile up for Vegas, as the team is already without defenseman Noah Hanifin, who has not played since Opening Night, and star winger Mark Stone, who is also out week-to-week with a wrist injury.

In a corresponding move, Vegas has called up Carl Lindbom, a 22-year-old Swedish net minder who the team chose in the seventh round of the 2021 NHL Draft. Lindbom is 1-0-1 with a .958 SV% and 1.00 GAA in his two appearances so far this year with the team’s AHL affiliate Henderson Silver Knights.

After defeating the Hurricanes, the Golden Knights are one of just two teams yet to suffer a loss in regulation, along with Colorado. Vegas sits in first place in the Pacific Division with a 5-0-2 record, having earned victories in their past four games.

The Golden Knights are set to head East to take on a trio of contenders on a road trip that includes stops in Florida, Tampa Bay and Carolina.
