A couple of notable players will not be in the Vegas Golden Knights lineup.

When speaking to the media, head coach Bruce Cassidy revealed that forward Jack Eichel and defenseman Shea Theodore will not be playing against the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday night. Both players are considered day-to-day.

Theodore missed practice on Tuesday due to an upper-body injury, while Eichel exited the skate due to an illness. The Golden Knights will have a couple of days to re-evaluate the two, as they are off until Saturday night, when they host the Calgary Flames.

With Eichel out, the lines have been shuffled a little bit. Tomas Hertl is now centering Ivan Barbashev and Pavel Dorofeyev. Kaedan Korczak looks to be on Brayden McNabb’s side for Wednesday night’s game.

Both players have appeared in every game for Vegas so far this season. Eichel has been playing at a near-MVP level, giving the team a sense that it can be a Stanley Cup contender once again. With 12 goals and 29 assists so far, Eichel sits tied for ninth in the NHL with 41 points. He’s also tied for eighth in assists. The 29-year-old was riding a five-game point streak, in which the Hobey Baker Award winner totaled a goal and nine points over that span.

Theodore has been an excellent two-way defender that the Golden Knights have relied on throughout his tenure with the franchise. The 30-year-old has notched four goals and 16 assists for 20 points, registering a plus/minus of +5 while averaging a hair over 24 minutes of ice time per game, a number he’s never reached in any previous season in his first 10 years in the league.

The Golden Knights (16-6-9) are second in the Pacific Division, one point behind the Anaheim Ducks for first place.
