The Vegas Golden Knights have placed team captain Mark Stone on long-term injured reserve as he continues to recover from a wrist injury, PuckPedia reported Thursday morning.

Stone, 33, exited early in the third period of the Golden Knights’ 6-1 victory over the Calgary Flames, shortly after scoring his second goal of the game. The veteran winger recorded four points in just 13:12 of ice time before leaving; he has two goals and 13 points in six games this season.

Despite playing in the game against Calgary, Stone actually appeared to sustain the injury midway through the third period of Vegas’ 6-5 win over the Boston Bruins two nights earlier, as he fell awkwardly into the boards after winning a puck battle against Nikita Zadorov.

The Golden Knights have Stone listed as week-to-week. As per the NHL’s LTIR rules, Stone will miss a minimum of 10 games and 24 days; the Knights now have approximately $2.5 million in cap space while Stone is out of the lineup.

Stone is now in his eighth season with the Golden Knights and his sixth as captain, having led the team to the Stanley Cup in 2023. The Golden Knights acquired Stone from the Ottawa Senators ahead of the 2019 trade deadline.

A Calder Trophy finalist with the Senators in 2015, Stone has developed a reputation over his decade in the NHL as one of the best two-way forwards in the game. He has also become widely known as being very injury-prone, having never played in more than 66 games in a single season during his entire tenure in Vegas.

Stone represented Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off earlier this year and, health permitting, should be a shoo-in to make the national team once again for the 2026 Winter Olympics. He previously played for Team Canada at the 2012 World Junior Championship, as well as the 2016 and 2019 IIHF World Championships.

Through 712 career NHL games over parts of 14 seasons with the Senators and Golden Knights, Stone has collected 233 goals and 647 points. The Winnipeg product has added 41 goals and 85 points in 112 career playoff contests.
