Golden Knights place Lukas Cormier on waivers

A young blueliner is ready to return to action in the minors.
On Wednesday, the Vegas Golden Knights placed defenseman Lukas Cormier on waivers, making him available to the other 31 teams in the NHL.
If Cormier clears waivers on Thursday, he’ll be eligible to be assigned to the Golden Knights’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Henderson Silver Knights.
Cormier started the 2026-27 season on the Golden Knights’ non-roster/injured list. He suffered an undisclosed injury during training camp, keeping him out of action for the past few weeks.
The 24-year-old entered the new campaign coming off his most productive season in pro hockey. With the Silver Knights, he scored eight goals and 39 assists for 47 points, finishing tied for sixth on the team in scoring. His play helped Henderson finish third in the AHL’s Pacific Division, as well as a first-round win over the San Jose Barracuda, the team’s first official Calder Cup Playoff series win in franchise history.
While the Silver Knights were ultimately eliminated in the division semifinals by the Colorado Eagles, Cormier finished second on the roster in playoff points with five in six appearances.
It’s been a couple of years since Cormier has seen NHL ice. The New Brunswick native played two games for Vegas back in the 2023-24 season, registering an assist.
In 188 regular-season games in the AHL, Cormier has posted 22 goals and 89 assists for 111 points. He’s currently on a one-year, two-way contract, which carries an NHL cap hit of $850,000, a minor-league salary of $225,000, and a guaranteed salary of $275,000.
In other news, the Golden Knights called up forward Alex Holtz from the Silver Knights. Holtz appeared in 28 games with Vegas last year, posting three goals and nine points. So far this season, the 24-year-old has posted four goals and eight points in five games with the Silver Knights.
The Golden Knights (8-3-0) are in action on Friday night against the St. Louis Blues. The Silver Knights (3-2-0-0) are set to host a two-game set against the Tucson Roadrunners this weekend.
