The Stanley Cup runners-up apparently had a few significant injuries during their long postseason run.

When speaking to the media on Wednesday, Vegas Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon revealed that forward William Karlsson suffered a broken wrist in Game 5 of the final against the Carolina Hurricanes. The injury ended up keeping the exceptional offensive weapon out for the final game of the series, which saw the Hurricanes beat the Golden Knights on Sunday night, 3-0, to win the franchise’s second Stanley Cup.

Karlsson will undergo surgery, with his timeline being unknown.

McCrimmon also revealed that defenseman Noah Hanifin had been battling through an upper-body injury that would’ve led to him missing 6-8 weeks during the regular season. Also, defender Brayden McNabb had three separate injuries that would’ve kept him out of action if the team wasn’t in the postseason. On top of that, captain Mark Stone had been playing through a torn adductor.

Karlsson exited the fifth game of the series, a 4-2 loss for Vegas, with an apparent injury. It wasn’t the first time he had missed time, as the Swedish center appeared in just 14 games during the regular season, and missed seven of the Golden Knights’ 22 games during the playoffs. In his 15 games during the postseason, Karlsson scored three goals and six assists for nine points.

Stone was bitten by the injury bug multiple times this year. On top of being limited to just 60 games during the regular season, the 34-year-old suffered an injury during the Golden Knights’ second-round series against the Anaheim Ducks, forcing him to miss the final three games of the series, as well as the first two contests of the Western Conference Final against the Colorado Avalanche. He posted seven goals and five assists for 12 points in 17 games in the playoffs.

Hanifin played in every game this spring, but exited Game 3 of the final after taking a hit from Hurricanes forward Jordan Martinook. Hanifin was able to return to the lineup for the fourth game last week. The 29-year-old registered seven assists in the postseason.

McNabb was hurt during Game 2 of the series against Carolina after blocking a shot with his face. Yet, he was back on the ice for Game 3, wearing facial protection for the rest of the final. The only game he missed was Game 5 against the Ducks, due to his suspension for his hit on Anaheim forward Ryan Poehling. The 35-year-old scored a goal and 10 points in 21 games during the postseason.
