The Vegas Golden Knights announced Friday that the club has signed left winger Brandon Saad to a one-year contract that will cover the balance of the 2024-25 season. Per TSN’s Chris Johnston, Saad will earn a prorated $1.5 million.

Saad became an unrestricted free agent earlier Friday after his previous contract was mutually terminated by the St. Louis Blues once he cleared waivers earlier this week.

The 32-year-old Pittsburgh, Pa., native joins the Golden Knights following 43 appearances with the Blues this season in which he registered seven goals and nine assists for 16 points. Scratched for five games this season, Saad’s down year follows a strong showing in 2023-24 where through 82 games he picked up 42 points, including 26 goals, five shy of his career high that came as part of the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2015-16. With the Blue Jackets, Saad also twice reached 53 points, a career best.

A veteran of 906 career contests counting stops with the Blue Jackets, Colorado Avalanche, Blues, and two separate showings with the Chicago Blackhawks, Saad has totaled 260 goals and 255 assists for 515 points. A two-time Stanley Cup champion, Saad hoisted Lord Stanley with the Blackhawks in both 2013 and 2015. The veteran forward has also collected 55 points counting 27 goals and 28 assists in 103 postseason appearances.

A graduate of the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit, Saad was originally chosen 43rd overall by the Blackhawks in the 2011 NHL Draft.

Saad joins a Golden Knights squad that sits second place in the Pacific Division with a 31-15-6 showing and 68 points, just short of the first place Edmonton Oilers due to a tie-breaker. Following back-to-back overtime losses to the Dallas Stars and Blue Jackets, the Golden Knights will look to return to their winning ways Sunday when the club heads to Manhattan to take on the New York Rangers.
