Voynov Suspended Indefinitely after being Arrested for Domestic Violence

The NHL has suspended Los Angeles Kings‘ defenseman Slava Voynov indefinitely following his arrest for domestic violence on Monday.

With all of the negative publicity the Nation Football League (NFL) received this fall for the way they handled the Ray Rice domestic violence incident, the NHL took immediate action and suspended Voynov indefinitely. Voynov will not be allowed to participate in any team activities, but will still be paid during his suspension.

The suspension was imposed under Section 18-A.5 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, which provides that, during the pendency of a criminal investigation, “The League may suspend the Player pending the League’s formal review and disposition of the matter where the failure to suspend the Player during this period would create a substantial risk of material harm to the legitimate interests and/or reputation of the League.” (Per NHL.com)

With Voynov out indefinitely, Brayden McNabb will remain a regular on the Kings’ blueline even after Jake Muzzin is able to return. With Muzzin’s status still uncertain for Thursday’s game vs. the Buffalo Sabres, the Kings will have to make a roster move if Muzzin can’t go. Voynov is probably safe to drop, because there is no word on how long this investigation or suspension may last.
