Capitals’ Connor McMichael week-to-week, Logan Thompson out day-to-day

A couple of players are going to miss a little bit more time.
When speaking to the media on Saturday, Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery revealed that forward Connor McMichael is out week-to-week with an upper-body injury. McMichael and defenseman Matt Roy have both been placed on injured reserve.
Connor McMichael is week-to-week with an upper-body injury, per Spencer Carbery.
Carbery was also asked if goaltender Logan Thompson would be healthy to play for Canada at the Olympics. Carbery clarified that Thompson is no more than day-to-day.
McMichael has played every game this season, including Washington’s last game this past Thursday against the Detroit Red Wings. However, he missed the last several minutes of regulation and overtime of the team’s 4-3 victory.
With his placement on IR being retroactive to Thursday, the Ajax, Ont. native wouldn’t be eligible to return to action until after the Olympic break.
McMichael has been a solid playmaker on a Caps team that has struggled this season. In 55 games, he has scored eight goals and 23 assists for 31 points. He’s not quite at the same pace he was last year, when he set career highs in goals (26), assists (31) and points (57).
Thompson has been considered day-to-day since his last game against the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday with an upper-body injury. The Calgary native is 18-16-4 in 38 starts, posting a 2.46 goals-against average, a .912 save percentage and two shutouts.
Carbery stated that Roy is day-to-day. The 30-year-old blueliner has already missed the past two games with a lower-body injury. He has been out of action three times this year, having totaled a goal and 13 assists for 14 points. His placement on IR is retroactive to his last appearance on Jan. 24 against the Edmonton Oilers. In theory, he could return to the lineup whenever he’s healthy.
After Saturday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes, the Capitals have three more games before the break, including a matchup next Thursday against the Nashville Predators.
The Capitals (26-22-7) are fifth in the Metropolitan Division, eight points back of the last Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
