— CapitalsPR (@CapitalsPR) May 25, 2022Wilson, 28, was injured in game one of the playoffs when the Capitals took on the Florida Panthers. He only played 1:31 of that game but managed to score an early goal. Following his tally, he only took one more shift — one that lasted 44 seconds — before he left the game.
In season-ending interviews, Wilson said he had “a pretty significant injury,” adding he tried to return in the series.
“It was kind of a weird, freak thing,” he said. “I went into the hit and tweaked my knee. I was doing everything I could to get back.”
Wilson’s season was one of his best in the NHL. In 78 games played, he scored career highs in goals (24), assists (28) and points (52), while his average time on ice of 18:35 was also a career-high.
