The best team in the Eastern Conference during the regular season is on the brink of elimination, and could use a much-needed scoring punch to keep its season alive.

Through the first four games of the Metropolitan Division Final, the Washington Capitals have been locked down by the strong defensive structure of the Carolina Hurricanes. Even with a roster filled with names like Alex Ovechkin, Dylan Strome and Tom Wilson, the Capitals have struggled to find the back of the net.

In the series that has them trailing 3-1 heading into Thursday night, Washinton has scored just six goals, only three of which have come at even strength. If they want to force a Game 6 in Raleigh, they’re going to need a little more than two goals to do so.

On Thursday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk explain the Caps’ dire need for offense in order to live to fight another day.

Tyler Yaremchuk: “Here’s my very obvious key to them – score some damn goals.”

Frank Seravalli: “This is a vast stylistic difference that the Caps have had a very slow time adjusting to. I’m curious to see what kind of changes, if any, Spencer Carbery makes in their approach and how to attack this Canes team because they’ve gotten waffled at seemingly every turn. For this team that has scored at ease, I think the other part of it is all season long, they don’t really know how to react in this circumstance because they’ve never really been there together. So, that part is interesting as well.

I mean, I’m not going to lie and say that I’ve spent a ton of time watching this series. I think everyone is kind of like, oh, yeah, this is the fourth of four. Can we get a high-event game, please? Could we have some chaos? Like, the Caps were pretty good at that in round one against the [Montreal] Canadiens. The Canes, they took quick work of the New Jersey Devils, but I’m all for chaos.”
