Capitals’ Pierre-Luc Dubois out for ‘extended period of time’ with lower-body injury

One of the veterans on the Washington Capitals roster is going to be on the shelf for the foreseeable future.
When speaking to the media on Monday, head coach Spencer Carbery revealed that forward Pierre-Luc Dubois will be out “extended period of time,” due to a lower-body injury. Carbery stated that Dubois is still being evaluated, with the team not sure whether the 27-year-old will require surgery. Regardless of the next steps, Dubois is going to be out of action for a while.
Pierre-Luc Dubois (lower body) is going to be out for an “extended period of time,” Spencer Carbery says. Dubois is still being evaluated, they’re not saying yet if he’ll need surgery. But will be out for a while.

Late in the first period, Dubois was taken down after a faceoff by Islanders center Jean-Gabriel Pageau. Pageau cross-checked Dubois on his right side, leading to Dubois’ left leg awkwardly twisting while he was falling to the ice.
It was immediately clear that PLD was in pain, and he needed to be helped off the ice by his teammates.

This isn’t the first time that Dubois has missed time due to a lower-body injury. Last month, the Quebec native went down on injured reserve, missing five games in the process.
It hasn’t been a fruitful start to Dubois’ second season in the U.S. capital. After a massive bounce-back campaign, where he notched a career-high 66 points, he has been held off the scoresheet in all six games he’s appeared in thus far. He has an even plus/minus, while averaging 15:32 of ice time per game.
The Capitals (6-5-1) are scheduled to host the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night.
