Capitals’ Tom Wilson leaves game vs. Blackhawks with lower-body injury

The Washington Capitals announced on social media that forward Tom Wilson left Saturday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks with a lower-body injury and was listed as being “questionable” to return.

He suffered suffered the injury in the first period after Blackhawks’ defender Connor Murphy delivered a reverse hit on Wilson, with the Capitals’ winger falling awkwardly and appearing to injure his ankle.
Wilson went to the locker room and did not return. He finished the night with two hits in 5:55 of ice time.
Through 41 games, Wilson has 22 goals and 20 assists for 42 points and 59 penalty minutes, leading the Capitals in both goals and points. He made headlines this week after he was named to Canada’s men’s hockey roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics. It will be his first time representing Canada on the world stage since 2011, when he was part of the gold-medal group at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
Now in his 13th NHL season, the Toronto native has 201 goals and 236 assists for 437 points and 1,591 penalty minutes in 876 career regular-season games.
He’s also played in 97 playoff games, where he’s recorded 18 goals and 23 assists for 41 points and 164 penalty minutes. He was part of Washington’s 2018 Stanley Cup championship, where in 21 games he scored five goals and 10 assists for 15 points.
Taken with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Wilson spent three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Plymouth Whalers. In his final season, he scored 23 goals and 35 assists for 58 points and 104 penalty minutes in 48 games.
