Washington Capitals’ Tom Wilson leaves game with lower-body injury
The Washington Capitals announced that forward Tom Wilson will not return to the team’s game against the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday evening.
Wilson blocked a shot with his right leg at 7:14 into the second period and immediately went down in visible pain. He limped to the bench before leaving the game and not returning after playing just 9:05.

He has played seven games since returning from nearly eight months of rehab after undergoing ACL surgery on his left knee in May.

The Avalanche was leading 2-1 at the time, and Colorado had a 3-2 lead when the announcement came through.
Wilson had played well recently with three points in his last four games. The 28-year-old has just eight games to his credit this season after undergoing off-season ACL surgery back in May. The Capitals are already missing forwards Nicklas Backstrom, Nic Dowd and T.J. Oshie, with Dowd being the lone player out with an injury. Backstrom is currently out with an illness, while Oshie’s wife just gave birth to their fourth child.
Wilson is coming off of the best offensive output of his career, scoring 24 goals and 52 points in 78 games last year. He has spent his entire NHL career with the Capitals, posting 276 points and 1,229 penalty minutes over 11 seasons. The Capitals entered the game in the second wild-card spot, sitting one point over the Buffalo Sabres, who beat St. Louis earlier in the evening. The Capitals had a 4-5-1 record in their last 10 games prior to Tuesday.
