WHL suspends Wenatchee Wild head coach Kevin Constantine indefinitely for derogatory comments

The Western Hockey League (WHL) announced today that following an investigation, Wenatchee Wild head coach Kevin Constantine has been suspended indefinitely following an independent investigation that found he violated the WHL Standard of Conduct policies by making derogatory comments of a discriminatory nature.

Just last week, Constantine was under fire and suspended by the WHL, pending an independent investigation into alleged violations of league rules.

“The WHL holds our players and staff to a very high standard of conduct at all times,” commented WHL Commissioner Ron Robison. “We have extensive programming which emphasizes the importance of always treating players and staff in a respectful manner and there is a zero tolerance for any comments of a derogatory nature. Those in leadership capacities in the WHL, in particular our Head Coaches, are expected to set examples for our players and not conduct themselves in a manner that would impact adversely on the team environment or inflict damage on the reputation of the League.”

Should Constantine wish to return to coaching in the WHL, he will be required to formally apply for reinstatement to the WHL Commissioner. Constantine will not be eligible to apply for reinstatement until July 2025 at the earliest.

Constantine joined the Wild’s first head coach following their relocation from Winnipeg. The Wild franchise previously existed in the BCHL from 2013 to 2023 before shifting into the WHL to take the place of the fledgling Winnipeg Ice. The Wild kept their BCHL name and branding through the relocation while assuming control of the former Winnipeg roster, which included NHL first-round picks Matt Savoie, Conor Geekie, and Zach Benson.
