What predictions should already be adjusted this season?

Even though the 2025-26 NHL season is just 10 days old, there are already some people who are questioning their preseason picks.
While it’s still early this season, some fans are already firing up alarm bells with how good or bad their teams have been playing. Teams like the Carolina Hurricanes have been playing well, but other teams like the Tampa Bay Lightning and Los Angeles Kings have been rather disappointing. On the other side of things, the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks have both been playing well above expectations.
On Friday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton discuss which of their early prognostications they would like to have back.
Carter Hutton: I thought the [New York] Rangers would have started better than they have, and I don’t think they’re playing horrible hockey by any means. Again, another loss last night to Toronto in overtime. They get the point. But maybe the lack of, not that I didn’t think that there was going to be this outburst of offense coming from the Rangers, but I thought we were going to see something different. The change in the captain, JT Miller being the leader, [Mike] Sullivan coming in. [Igor Shesterkin’s] been really, really good. But I guess I just thought they would get off to a better start than they have.
Tyler Yaremchuk: I predicted the [Washington Capitals] would miss the playoffs. They’re 3-1-0. That’s great, but they only have nine goals in four games and my concern there was offense. I don’t like the Red Wings, still. I mean, they’re 3-1-0. [Cam] Talbot’s playing great. I don’t know if I’m willing to go as I like. I don’t want to take anything back yet, so…I think my lame answer to you is, it’s too early for me to truly pull back on anything I predicted to start the year.
