Frank Seravalli was joined by James Nichols to discuss Timo Meier and the New Jersey Devils on the latest episode of Daily Faceoff Live.

Frank Seravalli: What do you make of Timo Meier, the Devils’ highest paid forward, arrived last year with tons of hype and expectation but really was kind of underwhelming during the entire tenure and especially in the playoffs. He just wasn’t a factor in New Jersey nearly as much as they would have hoped. I know he changed the number but what are the expectations for Meier this year in terms of bouncing back?

James Nichols: Yeah, with the number change I think he’s going for the Rocket Richard now. I do think that it was a difficult time with him adjusting to the new system he did admit coming in that it was a different system than he was used to in San Jose. A lot of players that come into New Jersey say that it takes a little time to adjust to the system Lindy Ruff has rolling out on the ice every night. I think with a full preseason and training camp under his belt with New Jersey, he’ll be that much more acclimated. He’s building some really good chemistry with Alexander Holtz, a couple primary assists on some really nice feeds for Holtz’ goals.

He’s played with Nico Hischier before and he’s shown that chemistry before, I think he’s in for a big season and I don’t think he’s ever played with an offence like this. A bit underwhelming last season admittedly but this year is much different in terms of his preparedness.
