What is the Flyers’ top priority this summer?

The Philadelphia Flyers surprised the hockey world by erasing a sizable deficit to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs and defeating their in-state rival Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round before bowing out with a sweep against the eventual champion Carolina Hurricanes.
Now, Daniel Briere’s focus turns toward taking his emerging roster and solidifying it in the hopes of putting together a team able to better withstand a team like Carolina in a playoff environment.
Briere got off to a strong start on Tuesday, landing goalie Joseph Woll from the Toronto Maple Leafs to form an impressive goaltending tandem alongside Dan Vladar.
On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, host Tyler Yaremchuk and co-host and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discussed what else Briere and the Flyers can do to keep pushing toward legitimate contender status.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Let’s go into Philly a little bit here and what GM Danny Breer could get up to in the next month or so. When you look at this Flyers team, they made the playoffs, they made the second round, it was a good year for Philly. What do you wanna see Breer do to kind of keep pushing this Flyers group in the right direction?
Carter Hutton: Well, I do like the fact that he added Woll. I think that’s something quickly to get off because of the fact that like, Sam Ersson was almost unplayable until late in the season, which hurt them and I think that’s why it propelled Vladar. So I think that is an important factor. For me, it’s Owen Tippett and the fact that where he’s at and his production, and I think he had a good year, but his inconsistency to really step forward has been that factor. And then moving into the summer, is that relationship between Tocchet and Matvei Michkov, is where does that go from here? Can it sustain? Like it’s been so public and so daunted with like the scratches, and where he’s gone. How does this team continue to grow with that factor? Because I think this year was a bit of an outlier. Now, can you continually push over the top and become one of those teams? Because there’s gonna be other teams in the Metro that keep pushing. You look at the Islanders, what they’re able to do with Schaefer. You look at Washington, are they still there with their development and the pieces with Ovechkin? I think the Flyers are at that point now where the retool is kind of over. Can you consistently win at this point?
Tyler Yaremchuk: Yeah, for me, it’s gonna come down the middle… You just look at this team, so many good pieces on the wings, whether it’s Tippett, Konekny, Martone, what’s Jett Luchanko gonna be over the next few years? Tyson Foerster, Alex Bump was playing high up in their lineup during that playoff run. You mentioned obviously a very popular name in Matvei Michkov. Like, so many pieces on the wings. Can they find a team out there who maybe has some spare depth down the middle, and can you make a hockey trade?
