As I’m sure you’ve heard, things haven’t been going all that well for the New York Rangers.

From the off-ice drama that has carried onto the ice, the Rangers are hanging on to their playoff hopes as we near the holiday roster freeze.

Sure, the team was able to squeak out a win on Wednesday night, but it was against the also-struggling Buffalo Sabres. The Blueshirts have won just three of their last 11 games, which includes a five-game losing streak that knocked them out of the top three in the Metropolitan Division.

As it stands, the Rangers hold the first Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, sitting fourth in the Metro, nine points out of first playce.

So, what has gone wrong for the Rangers on the ice during this disappointing month?

That question was addressed during the Coaches Room segment on Thursday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, as Jon Goyens joined Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk to discuss the Blueshirts’ woes.

Jon Goyens: Details. I talked on Jan. 8th–it was the first segment. Feb. 26th was the second segment, and even in the second segment, when there was an uptick in certain elements of their play, still not killing the rush was still an issue for them. When you’re not killing the rush, and you’re not forcing teams to relinquish puck possession, you’re not getting back to pucks, you’re not maybe getting first on pucks on breakouts and puck recoveries.

They’re near the bottom of the league in forcing teams to dump the puck in…they’re actually at the bottom of the league in recovering dump-ins against them. It’s this whole race track of space; you can land a Boeing through the neutral zone… their opponents have all kinds of time and space to either create with possession or regain possession.
