With just one week until free agency opens across the NHL, the debate rages on about who will receive the biggest payday.

Come July 1, there are several notable players that could find new homes, including defensemen Rasmus Andersson and John Carlson. However, with a lack of depth at certain positions, especially at center, there are going to be some players who are going to be overpaid. A lot of it has to do with so many quality players having already re-signed with their respective teams, including Evgeni Malkin and Charlie Coyle, there’s going to be a player down the middle who is going to make bank next week, though he might not be worth as much as his next contract will portray.

On Thursday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Matt Larkin joined Tyler Yaremchuk and Carter Hutton to discuss which players are going to be getting more than they’re worth.

Matt Larkin: It’s Boone Jenner. If you look at Charlie Coyle signed, Evgeni Malkin signed, Jason Dickinson off the board, all the centers are off the board/ If you look at that market, yes, it’s thin, but it’s especially thin at center…do you want to give up assets to get something, so you could go for a Dylan Larkin or Vincent Trocheck if you want to trade first and you’re going to have to give up a lot.

If you look at Boone Jenner, it’s only going to cost money, but I think it’s going to cost a lot of money, because he’s the only remotely decent center who has even second-line potential that I think is on the market right now. He’s a good player he’s a good leader he averages 27 goals, 53 points per 82 games over the last five years, but he also averages over that same span 56 games played. He gets banged up. He’s 33 years old, and I think he’s going to get paid to be a high-end No. 2 center, maybe even low-end 1C money, when ideally he’s your third guy.
