One of the greatest goaltenders in our game has earned another milestone.

On Monday night, Minnesota Wild goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury surpassed his boyhood idol, and Hall-of-Famer, Patrick Roy for second on the NHL all-time wins list, picking up win No. 552.

Fleury accomplished the feat by stopping all 21 shots he faced against the New York Islanders, helping Minnesota snap a four-game winless drought with a 5-0 win.

It is the 74th shutout of his career, which is 12th all-time, two behind another Hall-of-Fame netminder, Tony Esposito. There is no question that the man they call “Flower” will one day be enshrined on Front Street in Toronto.

Fleury earned his first NHL victory on Oct. 3, 2003, as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Over 13 seasons in the Steel City, he registered 375 wins, helping the team win three Stanley Cups.

The Sorel, Quebec-native was then taken first overall by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 expansion draft. In four years, Fleury helped the team make it to the Stanley Cup Finals, winning 117 regular-season games along the way.

After a brief stint with the Chicago Blackhawks, Fleury was traded to Minnesota, where he has been ever since. After passing by Roy, Fleury has a career record of 552-324-92 with two ties.

Fleury is fourth all-time in games played (1,006), 23 behind Roy for third, and 260 behind Martin Brodeur (1,266) for the most in league history.

Fleury’s wins is far more than any other active NHL netminder. New York Rangers goaltender is 17th all-time with 384 wins, while Sergei Bobrovsky of the Florida Panthers is right behind him with 381.

Roy held the record for most wins for almost nine years, before fellow Team Canada netminder Brodeur passed him on March 17, 2009.
