Winnipeg Jets captain Adam Lowry is still recovering from offseason hip surgery but said Thursday he expects to return to the lineup by late October or early November.

The 32-year-old center is entering his third season as Jets captain, having taken over from Blake Wheeler in 2023. In a media availability on Thursday, he said he has “a ways to go” in his recovery but is happy with where he’s at since undergoing surgery.

Lowry skated in 73 games with the Jets during the 2024-25 regular season, collecting 16 goals and 34 points. He added four points (all goals) in 13 games during the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

A third-round pick (No. 67 overall) of the Jets in 2011, Lowry made his NHL debut with the club in the 2014-15 season and played a significant role as a rookie in helping Winnipeg earn its first playoff berth since relocating from Atlanta.

Lowry has remained a fixture in the Jets’ bottom six ever since, appearing in 775 games over 11 seasons and collecting 121 goals and 273 points. The St. Louis-born, Calgary-raised forward is an imposing presence at 6’5″ and excels in the faceoff circle — taking after his dad, current Flames assistant coach Dave Lowry.

With their captain expected to miss the start of the 2025-26 season, the Jets will likely have to rely more heavily upon the likes of Mark Scheifele, Vladislav Namestnikov, and newcomer Jonathan Toews, who is slated to return to the NHL with his hometown team.

The Jets are coming off one of their strongest seasons in franchise history. They won the Central Division in 2024-25 with a 56-22-4 record and 116 points, and followed it up by defeating the St. Louis Blues in the first round before falling to the Dallas Stars in six games.
