A frightening scene in Manitoba on Tuesday night.

During a game between the Winnipeg Jets and Vegas Golden Knights, Jets defenseman Haydn Fleury was stretchered off the ice after a scary crash into the boards.

The incident occurred during the first period of the contest between the Western Conference foes. While forechecking in the Winnipeg zone, Golden Knights forward Keegan Kolesar finished a hit on Fleury, with the latter’s momentum sending him crashing into the boards, with his upper back and neck taking the burden of the blow.

As Fleury was being taken off the ice, to an ovation from the fans at Canada Life Centre, there were signs of movement from the 29-year-old, as well as his eyes being open.

The Jets later announced that Fleury was being taken to a nearby hospital in an ambulance. The good news was that he was moving his extremities and was alert when he was leaving the arena.

It all happened in only Fleury’s fourth shift of the game, as he registered 2:36 of ice time before the injury.

The Carlyle, Sask. native’s teammates took notice of the incident, as captain Adam Lowry dropped the gloves with Kolesar in the first period in response.

Tuesday night marked Fleury’s 17th appearance of the season. He has yet to register a point in 2025-26, and has a plus/minus of -7 while averaging over 14 minutes of ice time.
