The deal comes as other high-profile names like Kirill Kaprizov and Connor McDavid, who were scheduled to become unrestricted free agents after the 2025-26 season, signed extensions of their own in the last week.
On Wednesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton discuss Connor’s deal and how it reshapes the narrative of star players not wanting to sign in Winnipeg.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Kyle Connor is a perennial 40-goal guy and the Jets keep another big piece around. After the extensions of Mark Scheifele, Connor Hellebuyck and now Connor, guys are sticking around in Winnipeg.
Carter Hutton: This is great, and for a place that’s known to lose guys or where people don’t want to play, it just goes to show you that if you create a team and a good culture, guys are going to want to play there. It’s nice to see a homegrown guy stay there and blossom into his career.
He had a great season last year with 41 goals, he’s got seven 30-plus goal seasons, he’s a difference maker. In a division that’s absolutely stacked, for a team with the best goalie in the world – maybe not the best playoff goalie in the world – this is a huge signing.
As the days creep on and you get closer to next year, that price for Connor wasn’t going to get any cheaper.
