Mark Scheifele set a new high mark in the second version of the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets.

With a goal in the first period of Saturday’s game against the Nashville Predators, Scheifele became the Jets’ all-time points leader with 813, passing former Winnipeg captain Blake Wheeler.

Less than three minutes into the first period, the Jets were on a power play when Kyle Connor fed a pass to Scheifele, who one-timed the puck past Juuse Saros to give Winnipeg a 2-0 lead.

Scheifele now has six goals this season and a total of 342 during his 15-year NHL career. Last season, he broke the franchise’s all-time goals record, passing Ilya Kovalchuk, who scored 328 goals with the Atlanta Thrashers.

The franchise was in Atlanta, Ga., between 1999 and 2011 before being bought by True North Sports & Entertainment, who relocated the team to Winnipeg, Man.

Along with 342 goals, Scheifele has 471 assists for 813 total points in 884 career regular-season games. He also has 26 goals and 23 assists for 49 points in 53 career Stanley Cup Playoffs games.

Taken No. 7 overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Scheifele was the first player drafted in Winnipeg history.

The Jets went into Saturday’s game with a 3-1-0 record through their first four contests. The team will head to Alberta to face the Calgary Flames on Monday, then will have a three-game homestead with contests against the Seattle Kraken, Flames and Utah Mammoth.
