The Winnipeg Jets have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with unrestricted free agent forward Mason Shaw, the club announced Thursday afternoon.

Shaw, 26, spent the entirety of the 2024-25 season with the Manitoba Moose, the Jets’ AHL affiliate, collecting 17 goals and 37 points in 72 games.

The Jets opted not to tender Shaw a qualifying offer as a pending RFA but circled back and signed him on Day 3 of free agency. Shaw’s new contract with the Jets is worth $775,000 in the NHL and $350,000 in the minors.

A fourth-round pick (No. 97 overall) of the Minnesota Wild in the 2017 NHL Draft, Shaw skated in parts of five seasons with the AHL’s Iowa Wild to begin his pro career before finally making his NHL debut with Minnesota in 2021-22.

The Wainwright, Alberta product skated in 59 games with the Wild the following year, collecting seven goals and 17 points, but he sustained the fourth major ACL injury of his career in April 2023, ending his 2022-23 season and limiting him to just 29 professional games the following year.

A standout with the WHL’s Medicine Hat Tigers during his junior days, Shaw is a 5’10”, 184-pound winger who makes up for his lack of size with a non-stop motor. Through 82 career NHL games over parts of three seasons with the Wild, Shaw has collected eight goals, 20 points, and 118 penalty minutes.

Having spent most of his professional career to date in the AHL, Shaw has amassed 60 goals, 158 points, and 327 penalty minutes in 269 games over parts of eight seasons with Iowa and Manitoba. He figures to play a secondary role once again next season on a Moose team that finished the 2024-25 campaign with a 25-41-3-3 record, good for 56 points and last place in the AHL’s Central Division.
