Following Canada’s 9-1 win over Denmark at the 2026 World Junior Championships, the Canadians are preparing to face Finland Wednesday in their final game of the preliminary round. Some are wondering who head coach Dale Hunter will start in net.

On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton are joined by Daily Faceoff prospect analyst Steven Ellis to discuss Carter George’s performance in the tournament and what Canada’s situation in net will look like.

Carter Hutton: I didn’t think George showed well against Czechia, but the team gave up a lot of high-quality chances. Do you think it’s his net going forward? The next game is against the Finns and you have to get him going to propel them into the medal round?

Steven Ellis: Because there was the day between those two games between Denmark and Finland, it made a lot of sense that whoever started against Denmark would be their guy, and it feels like they still trust George. The game against Czechia wasn’t great, but on the other hand, watching back some of those goals, I think there were three tipped goals that they couldn’t completely blame them.

For me, I know it’s not a popular opinion, but I always like the idea that if a goalie has a bad game, give him the next game. Let him try to get that momentum back and be in the right head space, as you don’t want a goalie sitting there for two or three days, thinking back on that game.

I know that with George, he’s really mentally strong … I think with him, we saw what he did at the tournament last year, and what he’s done in the AHL, and in rookie tournaments with the L.A. Kings. This guy can play in big moments.
