WWE pays tribute to Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau on Monday Night Raw

One of the biggest shows in sports entertainment paid tribute to a couple of members of the hockey community we recently lost.
WWE’s No. 1 show, Monday Night Raw, was at the Scotiabank Saddledome, the home of the Calgary Flames. During the program, the promotion took time to air a feature, honoring the lives of Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau, who were killed in a cycling accident on Aug. 29. Johnny started his career with the Flames, playing eight years in Calgary.
The feature was hosted by WWE reporter Jackie Redmond, a native Canadian and rinkside reporter for the NHL on TNT.

The tributes didn’t stop there. Not long before that, wrestler Sami Zayn came out to join Calgary native and WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart, wearing a Gaudreau jersey. It drew chants of “Johnny” during the segment of the show.

The episode happened to be in Calgary on the same day as Matthew and Johnny’s funeral in New Jersey.
Since the Gaudreau brothers, tributes and memorials have spread across both the hockey and sporting landscapes. While their former teams, including the Columbus Blue Jackets, have honored Johnny and Matthew, personalities outside hockey have shown love for the two players.
New Jersey native Mike Trout, along with basketball legend LeBron James, paid tribute to Johnny Hockey and his brother on social media. Many major sports networks, such as ESPN, have followed the story of their tragic passing.
