Nightly Scrap: Flyers take fourth straight win

Without Danny Briere in the lineup, the Philadelphia Flyers won their fourth consecutive game.

Scott Hartnell scored two goals without his pivot while getting a helper from linemate Ville Leino and Jeff Carter filled in the line admirably with two assists.  Claude Giroux also added a powerplay goal, assisted by captain Mike Richards.

The Carolina Hurricanes received goals from fourth liner Patrick Dwyer and defenseman Joe Corvo.  Perhaps more importantly. they got another point from youngster Jeff Skinner.

In another Atlantic Division match-up, the New York Rangers defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2.

Led by their new top line of Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov and Ryan Callahan the team held off another team hurt by injuries.  Former top line center Erik Christensen added the game winning goal for the Rangers’ sixth win of the season. Henrik Lundqvist played well again, turning aside 33 of 35 shots and turning away shots until the final buzzer.

Patrick Kane and Tomas Kopecky scored for the Blackhawks and the team also got assists from Duncan Keith (2), Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp before ultimately falling short.

In Vancouver, the Canucks, like the rest of the League, steamrolled the Devils.  Just one game after learning their heart-and-soul winger Zach Parise would be out indefinitely following arthroscopic knee surgery, the team failed to dig deep letting Roberto Luongo shut them out.  By contrast, Martin Brodeur would allow three goals on 23 shots, allowing markers from Henrik Sedin, Ryan Kesler and Raffi Torres.

The Canucks have now won three straight even though they waited a week between wins.
