Oilers Resign Top Goaltender on Depth Chart

The Edmonton Oilers and impromptu starter Jeff Deslauriers agreed to a one-year contract worth 1.05 million. Since the status of Nikolai Khabibulin remains questionable, Deslauriers will enter the season as the more experienced netminder.

Unless the Oilers have a major boost in their overall play, rostering a goaltender who will split time on an expected lottery pick would not be beneficial. In fact, he should not even be drafted until young players like Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle prove they can play at the NHL level and veterans like Ales Hemsky chip in as well.

Almost everything possible went wrong for the Oilers last year but the team still has a good amount of holes. Still a guy who finished last season with a 3.26 and .901 SV% fails to give me any confidence.
