Ondrej Pavelec Agrees to Terms with Thrashers

According to Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, netminder Ondrej Pavelec has agreed to terms with the Atlanta Thrashers.  Vivlamore states the deal will be over two years and likely worth 2.3 million — giving him a 1.15 million cap hit by my count.

Pavelec played a turbulent game between the pipes last season, as can be expected from a rookie ‘tender. He will be 23 at the start of the season and now has three years split between the NHL and AHL.

With Chris Mason now a Thrasher, Pavelec will probably not see an increase in his playing time and may even see a reduction from his 42 games this past season.  Still with a 2nd round pedigree and flashes of brilliance, the team probably still sees him as the goalie of the future.

Vivlamore noted that the two will likely tandem for the next two seasons and from there maybe one of Edward Pasquale, Alex Kangas or Chris Carrozzi enter the mix.
