Patrice Bergeron will find himself out of the lineup against the Carolina Hurricanes tomorrow with a lower-body injury.

Bergeron sustained the injury last night when Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby clipped him, throwing Bergeron off balance and sending him awkwardly into the boards in the third period.

There is currently no clear timeline for Bergeron’s return, but Cassidy noted that the injury involves Bergeron’s head, so there is going to be some caution with his return.

It’s another big blow to the Bruins lineup, who are not only fighting to work their way up the standings in a tough Atlantic Division, but might also lose Brad Marchand for several games for a suspension after a hit on Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry. Marchand was offered an in-person hearing for the play and could be suspended for six games or more.

With both Bergeron and Marchand potentially out of the lineup, the Bruins had new lines and power-play units…

Bergeron’s in the middle of another strong season for the Bruins, especially at 36, with 12 goals and 35 points in 43 games, worthy of being in the All-Star game last weekend. He also continued his consistently strong defense and play-driving abilities, leading the Bruins with a 65.44% CF% and 68.37% xGF% at even strength, via Evolving Hockey.
