Mike Yeo will not be returning as the interim head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers, according to Kevin Weekes.

The Flyers will be moving on from the coach and looking elsewhere for a new head coach. Yeo took over the role on December 6th, 2021 when the Flyers fired head coach Alain Vigneault after an 8-10-4 start in his third season in Philadelphia.

Yeo struggled to get anything consistent going with the Flyers, as they had a 17-36-7 record under the interim head coach. Injury problems certainly didn’t help, as they saw a lot of guys miss a significant chunk of time especially Sean Couturier, Kevin Hayes, and Ryan Ellis. Only James van Riemsdyk played all 82 games for the Flyers this season.

Yeo initially joined the Flyers in the 2019 offseason as an assistant coach behind Vigneault alongside Michel Therrien, who was also relieved of his coaching duties on December 6th. Yeo has also the head coach of the Minnesota Wild from 2011-2016, and the St. Louis Blues from 2016-2019.

On top of a coaching search, it’ll be a busy offseason for general manager Chuck Fletcher. Even after trading away captain Claude Giroux and his $8.275 million cap hit that will be completely off the books after this season, they have roughly $6.3 million in cap space to play with this offseason due to the Couturier, Joel Farabee, and Rasmus Ristolainen extensions.
