Calgary Flames

Signing
The Flames signed Michael Stone to a three-year extension worth $10.5M ($3.5M AAV).
Stone had six points (2G / 4A) in 19 games after being acquired by the Flames at last year’s deadline. The 27-year-old had a chance to sign somewhere else and be a top-4 defenseman, but he stays in Calgary where he will be their fifth defenseman as a part of one of the most talented bluelines in the NHL.

Trade
The Flames have acquired Michael Stone from the Coyotes for a 2017 third round pick and a conditional 2018 fifth round pick.
Stone had his best offensive season of his career in 2015-16, but has struggled in 2016-17. Stone has just one goal and eight assists (nine points) in 45 games, but heads to Calgary where he will likely serve as their sixth defenseman. The Coyotes will retain 50 percent of Stone’s salary and the condition on the fifth round pick is based on whether or not the Flames re-sign Stone.

Injury
Stone (knee) has been cleared for contact; but likely won’t be ready for the Coyotes’ seasons opener.
Stone continues to work his way back from knee surgery on his left knee to repair his ACL and MCL and head coach Dave Tippett said that a return in time for Saturday’s opener may be “a little aggressive.” Stone is expected to slot in on the Coyotes’ second pair alongside Alex Goligoski, but look for Luke Schenn to play there if Stone misses the first few games.
