Game 5 will be Smith-Pelly’s first NHL games since February 17th. Smith-Pelly went to the AHL after that game and had six goals and eight assists (14 points) in 20 games with Hershey. Smith-Pelly was effective during the Capitals’ Stanley Cup run a year ago, scoring seven goals with one assist (eight points) in 24 postseason games.
In his first year with the Capitals, Smith-Pelly had 16 points (7G / 9A) in 75 games. The winger had a -4.7 relative Corsi with Washington and will likely be a fourth liner again in 2019.
Smith-Pelly had one year left on his contract that carried a $1.3M cap-hit. Smith-Pelly’s buyout will save the Devils $1.125M against the cap this season. The former second round pick (No.42 in 2010) has had a tough time producing at the NHL-level and now could be headed for his fourth team in four years.
Smith-Pelly, 24, was acquired by the Devils from Montreal at the trade deadline and played really well for New Jersey. Smith-Pelly had just 12 points (6G / 6A) in 46 games with the Habs before the trade, but collected 13 points (8G / 5A) in only 18 games following the trade. D.S.P could find himself on a top-line with Adam Henrique and the newest Devil Taylor Hall.
Smith-Pelly picked up 12 points (6G / 6A) in 46 games with the Canadiens this season. DSP didn’t breakout like the Habs hoped when they acquired him from the Ducks last season. He heads to New Jersey for a fellow underachieving forward in Stefan Matteau.
Smith-Pelly was scratched in the last three games, but will be back in the lineup on Tuesday in Philadelphia. Smith-Pelly will replace Dale Weise in the lineup—he had eight points (3G / 5A) in 28 games this season.
Smith-Pelly missed Sunday’s game with a lower-body injury, but he is expected to play on the top line in Wednesday’s game. Smith-Pelly is a big body, who has one goal and five assists in 21 games this season. This definitely bumps DSP’s fantasy value, but there is no saying how long he will play on the top line.
Smith-Pelly was a healthy scratch in the last two games, but will be back in the lineup tonight vs. Washington. He has registered just one assist in 15 games with the Canadiens, after posting 17 points (5G / 12A) in 54 games with the Ducks before the trade. He will replace Brian Flynn in the lineup.
Smith-Pelly played just 8:57 on Thursday and it looks like he will be a healthy scratch tonight vs. the Panthers. He has one assist, a minus-4 rating and 20 shots in 15 games since being traded to Montreal.
Smith-Pelly will make his Montreal debut on Thursday after being acquired from Anaheim on Tuesday. He will replace Christian Thomas and likely skate on the third line with Jacob De La Rose and Brandon Prust.
Smith-Pelly was a second round pick (42nd overall) in 2010. He is a big body at 6-foot, 220 lbs. so he definitely brings some size up front for the Canadiens. In 54 games this season, he has recorded five goals and 12 assists (17 points).
Smith-Pelly has not recorded a point in the last six games and has just 15 points (4G / 11A) in 41 games this season. He will be replaced by former Flame Rene Bourque.
