The Flyers signed Andy Miele to a one-year deal worth $600K.

Miele, 28, is a former Hobey Baker Award winner, but has only appeared in 15 career NHL games since turning pro in 2011-12. The Flyers signed him to a one-way contract, which means that he should get a shot with the Flyers out of training camp. He spent the last two years with the Grand Rapids Griffins, where he had a 70 and a 62-point season.

For undrafted free agents, one of the most important aspects when choosing a destination is available opportunity.

As a strong two-way forward, Miele should make the team in place of Kyle Turris. He fills coach Dave Tippett's need for another defensively responsible forward while injecting more youth into the lineup.

"He's relentless on the puck, he's around it, he's a very, very diligent player," Tippett said. "We'll see how he does in the exhibition games here, but he certainly hasn't hurt his case."

The diminutive center certainly will make a case to make the NHL this season. The Hobey Baker winner should earn a spot on the bottom two lines by next season.
