Brandon Sutter News

Brandon Sutter has retired after being released from his PTO from Edmonton and 13 NHL seasons.

Sutter attempted to make a comeback after a two-year hiatus from hockey after signing a PTO with Edmonton but was released Sunday and announced his retirement after 13 NHL seasons. The 34-year-old forward last played for Vancouver in 2020-21 and closed out his career representing three NHL teams (VAN, CAR, PIT). Sutter (undisclosed) will be a game-time decision on Wednesday.

Sutter missed Monday's game vs. the Jets but will be a game-time decision for Wednesday's rematch. Sutter participated in the Canucks' morning skate and head coach Travis Green called that a "good sign" but added that they'll "see if they're ready to go or not tonight."

Sutter (upper-body) will return to the Canucks lineup on Thursday.

Sutter has missed the last 12 games with an upper-body injury but will be back in the lineup tonight vs. the Coyotes. Sutter has eight points (5G / 3A) in 22 games this season and will replace Tim Schaller.

Brandon Sutter
Sutter (undisclosed) will not play on Thursday.

Sutter will not play against the Golden Knights because he is "banged up" according to head coach Travis Green. Sutter's injury is not related to the groin injury that cost him an extended period of time. Tim Schaller will replace him on the fourth line.

Brandon Sutter
Sutter (groin) joined the Canucks in Philadelphia.

Sutter missed the first three games of the road-trip but re-joined the team on Monday and could play vs. the Flyers. Sutter, who has eight points (5G / 3A) in 19 games this season, has missed five games in total since suffering a groin injury on November 12th.

Brandon Sutter
Sutter will miss one week with a strained groin.

Sutter left Tuesday's game after playing just 1:32 TOI and did not return. He will miss at least one week with a strained groin, so Tyler Graovac was recalled from Utica (AHL) on Wednesday and will make his season debut in Sutter's spot on Thursday.

Brandon Sutter
Sutter (lower-body) did not travel to Anaheim and is going to be out “a little while.”

Sutter was scratched from the lineup on Monday and is expected to miss some time with a lower-body issue. Adam Gaudette was recalled on Tuesday to take Sutter’s spot on the roster and likely in the lineup.

Brandon Sutter
Sutter (shoulder) will play for the first time since October 29th.

Sutter missed two months of action with a shoulder injury but will replace Josh Leivo (back spasms) in the lineup on Thursday. Sutter will likely return in a support role, serving as the team’s third-line centre behind Elias Pettersson and Bo Horvat. Sutter had just three goals and one assist in 13 games earlier this year.

Brandon Sutter
Sutter is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a separated shoulder.

Sutter was forced to leave Monday’s game vs. the Wild after suffering a separated shoulder after contact with Matt Dumba. Sutter has had a rough start to the season, picking up just three goals and one assist (four points) in 13 games. This leaves the Canucks without their shutdown centre. Sutter has started 73.1 percent of his zone-starts in the D-zone, but he has been getting caved in with a 39.8 CorsiFor% and -6.3 CF% rel.

Brandon Sutter
Sutter (illness) will be in the Canucks lineup on Tuesday.

Sutter missed Monday’s practice with an illness, but deemed himself ready to go tonight. There’s no word on who Sutter will replace but it seems likely that it will be one of Jake Virtanen/Brock Boeser or Michael Chaput, who took Sutter’s spot at practice yesterday.

Brandon Sutter
Sutter (illness) missed Monday's practice; questionable for Tuesday.

Sutter is feeling a little under the weather and missed today’s practice, turning his lineup spot over the Michael Chaput. Sutter has not officially been ruled out of the lineup, so check his status on Tuesday morning.
