Kyle Brodziak News

The Red Wings have acquired Kyle Brodziak and a conditional 2020 fourth-round pick from the Oilers for Mike Green.

Brodziak has missed the entire season with a back injury and his career is likely over, so his move is just cap related. The Red Wings take on his contract and retain 50 percent of Green’s contract to allow Edmonton to take on the veteran defenseman.

The Oilers have signed Kyle Brodziak to a two-year contract worth $2.3M ($1.15M AAV).

Brodziak, who was born in nearby St. Paul, Alberta returns to Edmonton, where he played from 2006 to 2009. The 34-year-old showed he still has some left in the tank last year, posting 33 points (10G / 23A) in 81 games with the Blues. He is a defensively-sound, hard-working centre who will play on the Oilers’ fourth line and help their penalty kill.

Brodziak (upper-body) will travel to Vancouver; questionable for Tuesday’s game.

Brodziak played just 2:22 in Saturday’s win vs. the Rangers on Saturday before leaving with an upper-body injury. Brodziak will travel to Vancouver, but he is day-to-day and may miss Tuesday’s game. If he’s out look for Dmitrij Jaskin to centre the fourth line.
