Erne had five assists, four PIMs and a -1 plus/minus through nine games with the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL) but has been recalled by Detroit Thursday and is expected to rejoin the lineup right away. Prior to his previous demotion, the 27-year-old had six goals, eight assists, and 38 SOG through 43 games played.

Erne has been sidelined on the COVID-19 reserve list since January 16th but is expected to play Wednesday in Tampa Bay. Erne, who started his career with the Lightning has just five points (2G / 3A) in 58 games since joining the Red Wings in 2020.

Erne, who has missed the last two games in COVID-19 protocol, will miss at least two more games as he remains in quarantine while the Red Wings head to Chicago for a two-game trip vs. the Blackhawks.

Erne was added to the COVID protocol list prior to Monday's game, so he will be replaced by Frans Nielsen on the fourth line. There is no indication how long Erne will be sidelined for.

Steve Yzerman brought Erne in from Tampa Bay in the summer of 2019, trading a fourth-round pick in 2020. In his first season with the Red Wings, Erne had just two goals and three assists (five points) in 56 games . Erne is a thick, gritty forward who produced high-end offensive numbers in juniors but it has not translated to the pro-level. He has just 32 points (15G / 17A) in 170 career NHL games.

With very few weeks left in the regular season, Erne could be done for 2020. The bottom-6 winger has tallied just five points (2G / 3A) in 56 games this season.


Erne has missed the last four games with an undisclosed injury but could play Tuesday vs. the Oilers. Erne skated on Tuesday morning but is still awaiting medical clearance to return to the lineup.

Ernie will miss his third straight game with an undisclosed injury but head coach Jeff Blashill believes he could be back in on Sunday. Evgeny Svechnikov will continue to skate in Erne’s spot on Friday.

Erne was set to miss Tuesday's game vs. the Canucks and was moved to IR so the Red Wings could recall Evgeny Svechnikov from the Griffins.
