The Avalanche have recalled Adam Werner from Colorado (AHL).

Werner was sent down on Tuesday because they expected Philipp Grubauer (hamstring) would be ready for Wednesday's game vs. the Flyers. Werner will serve as Pavel Francouz's backup for the second straight game.

Philipp Grubauer is dealing with a minor injury and was originally expected to backup on Monday. However, Werner's call-up suggests that Grubauer will sit out. Werner has gone 7-5-0 with a 3.04 GAA and .902 SV% inn 14 AHL games this season.

Werner will start Thursday in Edmonton.

Werner stopped all 40 shots that he faces after replacing Pavel Francouz on Tuesday night. It was a ridiculous performance for the 22-year-old, who will be making his first career start on Thursday night. He had a .908 SV% in nine AHL games before coming up, so it's hard to envision him replicating Tuesday's success against Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl in Edmonton.

Werner has gone 5-4-0 with a 2.88 GAA and .908 SV% in nine AHL games this season. Werner was called-up because something is up with Philipp Grubauer. He was not on the ice for Thursday's morning skate, so look for Werner to backup Pavel Francouz against the Predators.
