He’ll start the first game of the Canadiens back-to-back in New Jersey. It will be his 13th start of the season and he comes in with a 5-4-2 record, 3.25 GAA and .896 SV% on the road.

Montoya allowed three goals on 42 shots in the Canadiens’ win in Dallas last Wednesday. Montoya has won his last two starts while turning aside 70 of 75 shots (.933 SV%). Tonight he will face his former team in Winnipeg for the first time this season. The Jets come into play having won three of their last four while averaging 3.75 goals for per game.

Montoya has started 90 percent of his games on the road this season, going 3-4-2 with a 3.20 GAA and .896 SV%, but those numbers are skewed by a 10-0 loss in Columbus earlier in the year. Tonight he will face a Stars team that has gone 4-1-1 in their last six games.

The Canadiens have signed Al Montoya to a two-year deal worth $2.13 million ($1.065M AAV).

Montoya, 31, has gone 4-4-2 with a 2.74 GAA and .909 SV% in his first season with the Canadiens. This signing probably has less to do with signing Montoya than it does with having a goalie to expose to the expansion draft this summer. For the rest of this season, Montoya will be one of the better spot-start options behind a strong Canadiens team.

He gets the nod in Florida tonight and if you take out that 10-goal game in Columbus, Montoya is 2-3-2 with a 2.41 GAA and .917 SV% on the road.

Montoya is 2-3-2 with a 3.53 GAA and .887 SV% in seven starts on the road this season. Those numbers are a tad inflated by a 10-0 loss in Columbus back on November 4th. Tonight he gets a chance to redeem himself in Columbus, against a Blue Jackets team that has won 11 in a row.

If you take out the absurd 10-goal against game, Montoya has gone 3-1-1 with a 1.79 GAA and .946 SV% in five starts. Tonight he makes for a strong spot-start against a Hurricanes team that is under .500 and sit 17th in goal scoring (2.53 GF/PG).

Montoya allowed two goals on 28 shots in the Canadiens’ win over the Islanders on October 26th. Montoya has started four games this season, winning three of them with a 1.47 GAA and .955 SV%. Montoya is one of the best spot-start options in the NHL thanks to a strong Canadiens team in front of him. He makes for a strong option tonight in Columbus.

Montoya stopped all 36 shots that he faced in the Canadiens’ shutout win over the Penguins on October 18th. Carey Price has started the last three games, but Montoya will get the first game of their Wednesday-Thursday back-to-back. Montoya has won two of his first starts while posting an impressive 1.30 GAA, .962 SV% and one shutout.

Montoya surrendered three goals on 38 shots in the Canadiens’ shootout loss in Ottawa on Saturday. With Carey Price still sidelined with the flu, Montoya will start his third consecutive game tonight. He has filled in for Price very well, stopping 65 of 69 shots (.942 SV%) that he has faced in his first two stars in a Montreal uniform.

Montoya stopped 30 of 31 shots in the Canadiens’ season opening win in Buffalo. No Carey Price, no problem. Montoya’s Habs debut was a successful one and he will look to carry that success into tonight’s game in Ottawa. Montoya lost his only start against the Senators last year (with Florida), but they are a solid matchup. However, you always have to be a little wary of a matchup against Erik Karlsson.

No one expected his debut to come in the season opener, but with Carey Price staying back in Montreal with an illness, Montoya gets the nod vs. the Sabres. The veteran netminder had 12 wins with a 2.18 GAA and .919 SV% as Roberto Luongo’s backup last season and makes for a cheap daily start on Thursday. The Sabres will be without Jack Eichel (ankle) and Kyle Okposo (knee).

Montoya, 31, was one of the better backups and spot-start options in the NHL last season. He was 12-7-2 with a 2.18 GAA and .919 SV% in 25 games with the Panthers and now he will battle with Mike Condon to be Carey Price’s backup in 2016-17. Montoya carries a career .909 SV% in 110 starts.

Montoya and Roberto Luongo were expected to split the final four games, so Montoya will go tonight in Ottawa. He has won his last two starts while turning aside 46 of 51 shots (.902 SV%). The Senators come in having lost five of their last seven games.
