Montoya will start Thursday vs. the Capitals.

Montoya made 22 saves on 23 shots in the Panthers win in Columbus last Friday. Montoya has gone 3-1-1 with a rock solid 2.09 GAA and .926 SV% on the season. Tonight will be the second time he faces the Capitals this season. In their first meeting he stopped 25 of 27 shots in a 2-1 OT loss. He catches a break tonight with Philipp Grubauer starting instead of Braden Holtby.

Montoya was taken out of the game due to injury on November 23rd. He stopped eight of nine shots before leaving the game, but it forced him to sit the last four games, including last night. Montoya comes into play with a 2-1-1 record, 2.39 GAA and .920 SV% on the season. The Blue Jackets comes into play having lost two in a row and have only scored six goals in their last four games.

Montoya was hit in the head by Nick Shore who charged the net in an effort to score a goal. Coach Gerrard Gallant said “he was pretty sore, obviously couldn’t come back.” Roberto Luongo replaced Montoya and he should start on Friday.

Montoya gave up four goals on 31 shots in the Panthers loss in San Jose on November 5th. Luongo has started the last seven games and allowed five goals on Saturday, so Montoya will start tonight vs. Los Angeles. Montoya has gone 2-1-1 with a 2.22 GAA and .922 SV% in four starts this season.

Montoya allowed two goals on 27 shots in the Panthers loss to the Capitals on Halloween. Montoya has won two of his three starts while posting a 1.63 GAA and .941 SV%. As per usual, Montoya will start the second game of Florida’s back-to-back set. He will face a Sharks team who got off to a hot start, but have now lost six of their last eight.

Montoya allowed two goals on 35 shots in the Panthers win in Dallas last Saturday. Montoya has won each of his two starts while allowing three goals on 58 shots (.948 SV%). He is a serviceable spot-start option, but draws a tough matchup tonight with the Capitals in town.

Montoya allowed one goal on 23 shots in the Panthers win over the Hurricanes on October 13th. It was a nice season debut for Montoya, who will give Roberto Luongo the night off tonight in Dallas. It is not a favourable matchup for the Panthers backup—The Stars have averaged 3.57 goals per game this season.

Montoya is a strong backup, worthy of a spot-start sometimes, but this early in the week, you probably don’t need to look for a spot-start just yet. He comes in with a career 2.69 GAA and .907 SV%.

Montoya has been sidelined by a groin injury since March 3rd, but he will make one last start this season when he gets the nod tonight vs. the Devils. Montoya has had an OK season as the Panthers back-up, going 5-7-2 with a 3.08 GAA and .888 SV% in 12 starts. He has one more year on his contract and is expected to be back behind Roberto Luongo in 2015-16.

Montoya went through another practice Tuesday and says he would like to play in Florida's season finale Saturday against the Devils as Coach Gallant said Roberto Luongo would play Thursday. "I'm feeling better every day,” said Montoya. “I just want to give the team a chance to win if I get in there. I would like to play, off course, but it's not up to me.''

Montoya was injured on Tuesday and will miss at least two weeks with a groin injury. Roberto Luongo is also out, so the Panthers will have to go with Dan Ellis until Luongo is back. Montoya won’t be back until mid-March at the earliest.

Tuesday’s game was a crazy one for Panthers’ net minders. Roberto Luongo was injured which thrust Montoya into duty.Montoya was then injured and left the ice. Since he was their only goalie option he returned to the crease and played on one leg. He ended up getting replaced by Luongo with under 10 minutes left in the third. Montoya’s injury is believed to be more serious, so the Panthers have recalled Dan Ellis from San Antonio (AHL).

Montoya allowed five goals on 26 shots in the Panthers loss in Pittsburgh on February 22nd. He has gone 1-2-0 with a 3.03 GAA and .898 SV% in his last three outings. He will face a Lightning team who have won three of their last four while scoring four goals in each game.

Tonight he starts against a Penguins team who are 5-4-1 while averaging just 2.20 goals per game in the month of February.
